Door lock.

Hello, hello. I'm on the hunt for an old drivers door (RHD) so I can salvage the locking mechanism, so the condition of the door doesn't matter. The problem I have is that although the door opens perfectly from the inside, from the outside it's a big no no. The proplem started when more than usual force was needed to push the lock barrel in until after about 6 months it does nothing...wont pop out, just nothing. Everything still works perfectly from the inside...So, old door with working locking mechanism please. The nearer to Portsmouth the better.

Many thanks, Tone.

Hello Tone,

I had prettymuch the same problem and when I unscrewed the locking mechanism, I found out that the small cotterpin was broken. as one part of the pin is used to open from the inside and the other (broken) part of the pin you can open from outside bij pushing the lock barrel, there is also a spring attached to this cotter pin.

On the picture you see the broken one and the new (good) one next to it.

Maybe you also have a broken cotter pin?? Easy and cheap to change.

Many thanks indeed for that. It does seem strange that the lock works perfectly from the inside yet not outside and this suggestion makes sense. I'll check it out this afternoon.

Cheers, Tone.

On the subject of door-locks, the trouble with my drivers' door one is it looks like the barrel is near to falling out, and it's a fiddle to lock and unlock the door. My question is, is it possible to get to the barrel to replace whatever is worn? Or do I need to replace the whole button?
