Can any one tell me if the garage will check for emissions on my 1971 Renault 4 when I take it for an MOT?

Here are the current rules for emissions testing:

Before 1 August 1975: A visual test for excessive smoke.
1 August 1975 to 1 August 1986: Limits are 4.5% CO and 1200ppm hydrocarbons.
1 August 1986 to 31 July 1992: Limits are 3.5% CO and 1200ppm hydrocarbons.
After 1st Aug 1992 you need a catalyst and my eyes glazed over at that point.

Thank you Malcolm for the rapid reply, I guess with my R4 being 1971 I won't have any worries because my son smokes more than her, I don't know why I think the R4 is a female rather than a male, funny old world

I often try to get them to stick the emissions probe on when I go for an MOT. It's not part of the test for older cars but can be good feedback on how well everything is set up.

No reason at all why any R4 shouldn't reach at least the basic test standard. And at £50 for an MOT it's something for them to do for their money.

1971 sounds nice. Any photos?
