Exhaust Manifold

Hello folks,
Had an interesting discussion with Riedalpine about modified exhaust manifolds for an 850 TL, anyone know if such a thing exists?, has been done?, is worthwhile?. It started off talking of the Sovem, which is supposed to have a modded item fitted. I was thinking of fuel efficiency as opposed to unleashing multitudes of raw horsepower:). I'm just about ready with the Mikuni conversion and wondered whether the exhaust might help too?.
Thanks,
Alan.

Of course such a nice thing existed. It was produced by Autobleu, specialist in manifolds since the 4CV era, and it was of tubular construction. One of them appeared on ebay some time ago, and it sold for about 400 euros, if I remember correctly.

Alan-google Iresa-Spain click: Saltar Intro. then: nuestros productos
roll down to: Colectores de escape for a look on their quality...
They Look very sexy to me ,but at over 1/2Ton of Euro's I need to know they will work properly too...
as Angel says the originals from back in the days In addition to what they actually are they have also become collector items which means they are expensive today. Same thing goes for the Devil-exhausts of not too long ago-Hopefully Autobleu was of (much) better quality as frankly Devil is CRAP! (I've had 3 on my Alpine so far)
Being more than a little bold here now-but if we all leaned Hard on Angel.. could we persuade him to make a series of them I wonder???? -R.

Here it is, and it appears to be in production! : http://www.necautobleu.com/212-213-251/refabrications.htm

Scroll down the page to see the R4 manifold, and read also the Gazoline article...what do you think about the price?
Reidar, your idea is not bad, we have some people here that are experts in pipe bending and manifold fabricating, the problem is they need the real one, they don't have good relationship with AutoCad...

Here's someone on a French site who installed a fancy exhaust on his R4.
(Got problems fixing the steering though.)

Angelos! Am firing off an email to necautobleu to investigate further..
Very interesting!
Prices seems to reflect the fact we are into High-profile Sports-car
I guess...
-What would be vital to know from a manufacturing standpoint is exactly Which different engines/tops rather, would be a One size fits all!

I guess if we could tally up some interested parties it would be easier and more cost-efficient (cheaper) per head, I'm also persuing a double-corp intakemanifold from a R12
-Any thoughts on this Angelos? -R.

In theory, you would need a different exhaust manifold (pipe lengthe and diameter, and whether it is a 4-2-1 or a 4-1 style) depending on your carburettor(s), camshaft, valve sizes...
All Ventoux manifolds will fit on all Ventoux heads (there was one head with diagonally positioned studs), and correspondingly for Cleon heads/manifolds. The question is, are these Autobleu manifolds designed and built on the tuned length principle?

seing autobleu has been in business from back in th e50's I'm thinking they surely Must have made them properly or they would have gone belly up ?
The (few) I've seen has all been 4-1 as 2 and 2 plugs fire at same time? -must confess to being on very thin ice (or open water)here...
-I see what you mean Angelos-easy to just weld up a couple of pipes, but if properly made they must be made to both correct lenght + diameter to work as they should.
Must confess to not being at all into the tech side of it,but if just half as important to be made right as on the old 2-stroke exhaust with expansion-chambers and correct lenght and size of pipe I see your point.
My motor is the 810-G-726 5-bearing. Not sure but is it the wet-liners? so is that the Cleon or the Ventoux -and where do I have the Sierra name from?
Hope you're having a blast down in Athens Angelos-Have an ouzo for me too. -R.

In fact, anything better than the original 4CV manifold would work wonders back then. Especially when you could fit a 32mm carb, in place of the 22mm one!

Exactly like this...I don't think you will be way out with a tubular manifold, anyway, but better ask the manufacturers.

:-) Cleon is the same engine family as the Sierra!

Still waiting for reply from Autobleu-have in meantime with assistance placed an ad on the Spanish R4,5,6 and 7club so hope there is someone out there with more info Or even an actual header... 32mm surely sound better than 22 I fully agree, but how "far out" can one go before small size valves -(and resticted exhaust too) will limit any gain?
Would the 5-bearing block then be the Ventoux or the Cleon- Do you know Angelos? -R.

It is the Cleon. You are right, better to refer to them as "3-bearing" or "5-bearing" :-) .

I don't think someone would go to the trouble (and expense...) to fit the Autobleu manifold, and then leave the original silencer on...Certainly this must be replaced.
