Our R4 passed its MoT today, but with an advisory about a broken exhaust mount. I can see the problem and have replaced ones like this before, but the way the pipe is fitted would put too much strain on a new mount. Are longer mounts available? Or is there another solution?
Thanks Andy, good idea, but I don't think that will be enough. The current mounting block has rubber that is about 25mm long, but the gap is over 35mm long. I don't think there would be enough thread to allow that.
you can get rubber bobbins at any good autoshop for nxt to nothing.cut them to needed lenght push a screw/bolt through Loose fitted with 2 nuts
and you're good to go.
-Choose soft bobbins (measured in Shores) to avoid loud resonance in body/frame Broom-broom..-R.
Mine need changing soon, have noticed that Piezas here do a reinforced one here, also note that they also stock an exhaust silentblock mount for Morris Minor, thread is bigger and block heavier, but look a good upgrade, sure they
must be available nearer than here.
Now I've just got to stop the little oil leak that only happens when the engine is running. After looking at other posts on the forum, I'm hoping it's just the rocker cover gasket, so I've got a new one to fit. Any tips would be welcome
I would first clean the engine around the rocker cover gasket as well as around the oil sump gasket as much as possible.
Then put a large piece of cardboard on the ground under the engine, start the engine and see if oil gets on the cardboard anywhere. You can determine where it corresponds to the engine at the place(s) where there might be an oil leak.
