Front hub spacers between hub and upright

Is there a correct thickness for the small spacer between the outer wheel bearing and the front hub? Just rebuilt them and when you tighten up the hub/ shaft nut it pulls tight against the back face of the caliper…
Worked fine before with the old bearings, which weren’t too bad. The new ones are dimensionally identical.
Big spacers are in place, everything seems fine..

Oohh… Did I press the bearings on too hard? If they are lightly ( but snugly) in does the end nut pull them up with the 130 Nm torque applied?
Does the spliced section come up flush with the inner bearing face?

Hi Nigel

There should be a large spacer which locates between the inner and outer bearing, can't miss it as it has quite a width to it. There should also be a washer type spacer which sits between the reverse of the hub and the outer bearing, the tapered side should face towards the wheel side when everything is back in situ. If it is missing, you will have play. Once everything is back in place, lock the large driveshaft lock nut real tight, release and lock again, this will ensure the bearings are driven home. Final locking of this nut is 90nm.

Cheers, all the spacers and washers were in the correct place…. I just fitted the dirt shield between the inner bearing and the driveshaft the wrong way round!!! Comes for being in the workshop too late at night. Should have stopped earlier.
Anyway, I have one side in place now and all is good.
Thanks for the help though. I’ll go with your 90 NM and check after a few miles.
