Hi. My wife has bought an R4 with speedo not working, so many people have been very helpful in trying to solve our problem, one option is to swap the gearbox or stripdown and replace parts.

We live in Leicestershire but are willing to travel if anyone has a working 146 gearbox for sale, please message if you know where I can get one.

Cheers

Steve

Hello Steve,
Possible resources and advertisments for HA0 146 gearbox are:

http://www.renospeed.co.uk (don't know if they do parts but just phone or email them)

In France (home of the R4) where I find and found loads of parts:

https://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/1560975275.htm (could be a 146 just email them);

https://www.leboncoin.fr/equipement_auto/1520001450.htm (a 146);

https://www.palace-de-lancienne.com/products/boite-de-vitesse-hao-146-pour-renault-4l-gtl (very reliable seller)

There are over 27 million Cleon engines build so a suitable HA0 gearbox could found as well.
Regards, Joop

Hi Steve

I might be stating lines of enquiry you have already investigated. Before buying a gearbox have you checked the speedo drive (plastic cog in speedo drive housing front of gearbox). It can sometimes be the cause, easy to access with gearbox in situ, remove gearbox mounting, remove speedo cable, then just a few bolts to undo to remove speedo housing. Alternatively, the end of the cable could have broken off inside the locating aperture inside the speedo housing.

Best Regards

Hi would you tell me what engine do you have? Cause my r4 has this gearbox and 1.1 engine, but my engine has no valve stem seals witch indicates that it's not original r4 engine

Hi. Sorry for the delay car has been in storage, long story. How can I tell what my engine is? Is there a number on it somewhere?
Let me know and I will have a look

There is number on the engine block
But It appears that my engine is from early r5,
My whole car seems to be put together from many different cars :)
But i don't mind I'm not the purist
In fact I'm going to introduce good few modifications myself :)

I guess there are a few like that, at least you now know what engine you have.
Have fun
