Hey some of you may know me as rudinis wife (if you remember him) big appologies for not being on the scene for a few years and thank you all who sent kind thoughts at such a hard time! Just to let you all know that the 4 has just undergone some much needed tlc new rear wings fitted and some other welding work n yet another re spray with real paint this time and of course in rudis mat black choice! New boot seal which renault kindly supplyed wrongly! new petrol cap and neck surround as some moron decided to break mine off to steal the fule! Anyone got any ideas on electrifying it so it wont happen again? Think i may be in need of a new starter motor for it too if any one can advise as to what other models id be able to steal one off i'd be much obliged. Im off to buy a new battery today n hopefully we will be all road legal by the end of the week i just have a few more tweeks like re attaching the horn replacing the number plate thats badly cracked n i have a faulty side indicator n maybe one or two other things but im sure they are all easy fixes which I need to get done for friday. Desperate to have the old girl on the road again ive been missing the huge grins that she gives me and i think its high time we grew some more happy memorys together!

Hello Mrs Roodini - great to hear from you again and nice to hear that you're getting Rudi's R4 fixed up. I do remember him as he came over to my mum's place to take some parts off an old R5 I was breaking.

Rudi put a larger 1400cc engine it so I'm not sure what starter will fit now but Malcolm may know that one.

Just let us know if we can offer any help or advice and good luck with the MOT.

Steve

Hello their Steve thought you may remember me hope your keeping well fella :D ive been doing all day on the car n my friday deadline is getting tight still need to get the boot water tight and im waiting on my battery so i can sort the side indicator light on the up side the rest of the back end is all back together and im on a major clean up as the 4 has grown a sticky residue on the dash /stearing wheel and any where else theirs plastics oh well back to the mop will check in later :D

Good to hear the Pornmobile is being revived

I think there are some differences between starter motors. If I recall the engine is from a 1.4L Renault 5 automatic (1982 is a good date to give). Worth trying your local motor factor for an exchange starter for one of those (you'll need to take yours in to swap). My local motor factor had them on the shelf gathering dust. Before changing it check the battery terminals are clean and it's also worth undoing the battery earth lead connected to the gearbox to give that a good clean. That and a wiggle on the little wire connected to the starter. Could be the old starter is OK.

The boot seal is normally glued on with something like contact adhesive. Is the seal roughly the correct profile? Maybe you could cut the lip off and glue it on.

Let us know if you need any bits and pieces.

....oh, and good old liquid Flash is the stuff to clean interior plastic. Agitate it with a nail brush and an old tooth brush for those hard to get to areas.
