The Basics:
I own a '91 GTL. It used to be my grandad's. A lot of work has been done to it but there's a lot left to do.
History:
My Dad's first car was an '83 GTL in a beautiful light green bought from new he drove it for about 10 years and then my Grandad started driving it and he had it all the way until 2015 when the rear suspension mountings rusted away.
The Current R4:
We bought the '91 R4 in 2017 as a replacement for the old green one. It was in decent shape had some rust on the body here and there but it ran fine and did its job. But around 2019 the starter stared to fail you would need to bang it with a stick to get to work sometimes and the rust on the body was getting pretty bad. So in 2020 we bought an '84 GTL for parts. And during that summer we fixed up the rust on the body, replaced the starter, painted the wheels and even changed the bonnet with the one from the '84 GTL and after that the car was in pretty good shape. We've had a few small problems since we had to replace the water pump and other small things.
Status:
Currently the R4 has a big problem that being that the shaft between the clutch lever and release fork has seized up due to rust and we'll have to take the engine out, thankfully this opportunity will allow us to do other stuff such as replacing the clutch disc and doing some work on the engine mounts. We've already took the engine and gearbox out of the '84 GTL for some parts.
This is just a copy of my about page but I thought this would be a nice way to introduce myself. I hope to post updates about the stuff I'm doing on my R4.
