Hi, I found my Handbook(1992) that I should change the oil every 10k km, gearbox oil every 60k km, Sparking plug 20k km

I'll like you to fill this out, I have done it for myself already:
1.Oil: 10000 km
2.Oil filter: 10000 km
3.Gearbox oil: 60000 km
4.Gasoline filter: 20000 km
5.Air filter: 20000 km
6.Sparking plug: 30000 km
7.Contact set: 30000 km
8.Distributor cap: 40000 km
9.Rotor: 40000 km
10.Brake fluid: 4 years
11. Belt for water pump & alternator: 30000 km

1. 5000 km
2. 10000 km
3. 50000 km
4. 5000 km (as the average R4 fuel tank is a bit rusty inside...)
5. 15000 km, blowing it with air on oil changes
6 and 7. 15000 km, not forgetting the condenser
8 and 9 when they give trouble :-)
10. Every 3 years, but chances are that some repair work would have been needed earlier on the hydraulic system, so the fluid would have been changed.

Tnx mate, this is very helpful. This is my first car and all other cars in the family are driven to mechanic.

My english is quite good, but I have troubles struggling through the special car parts names.
So I know what the word condenser means but I don't know what is this in an R4 engine.
Is this the big "condenser" on the side of wing or is it located somewhere else?

I did today my first DIY on a R4 was today. I changed the air and gasoline filter.

The oil change follows when the oil arrives :)

No, I mean the electrical condenser fitted in parallel with the distributor contact points.

It is interesting that your 1992 R4 has 10000 km oil change intervals. Renault started with 5000 intervals, than changed them to 7500 ones at the late 70s, without changing anything to the engine design. They must had realized that this engine had been a lot more lasting than expected!

:) Hi, for several things I prefer speaking with time instead of kilometers...

Yes it's weird that the oilchange intervals was raised so much, but I think a 10000 is a pretty normal interval. And the oil quality went up prety much since the first R4 was built.

I'm trying to sum up all your intervals to found pretty normal intervals for my R4.

I always change my oil at the beginning of every month regardless as it's only two and half litres and it has no filter, the cost is next to nothing and of course when it comes out it's almost as clean as it went in, hopefully the car will last me a lifetime.

What year is your car again billythefish? Anything after 1965 ought to have at least the possibility for attaching an adapter and fitting an oil filter. Would save a load of oil changes. Do post some photos of the car.
