This might have been a repeat but I saw the episode tonight on BBC2 which featured some lovely old cars (and some very quirky ones too!) including a lovely r4 which looked (to my unknowing eyes) like a 1960's model in light blue. I was disappointed - to the point of anger - when May lapsed into 'TopGear-type' behaviour and destroyed a 2CV and an R4 - I really just can't understand why he or the program producers would want to do that.

It was discussed here at the time. The car was a fairly poor, late GTL with most of the decent bits removed. I seem to think Renospeed supplied it or at least had some connection to it.

Why do they do it? Probably because they think its what viewers want sadly.

Hi Mike, I feel your pain! I did'nt see the programme because a) I live in Portugal & b) I never watch it; i'm not really a "petrol head"- just love my dear old Renault 4 (the 6th one i've had since I had long hair & a beard). The cream 2CV was quite enjoyable too!
How tedious and crass these overpayed dinosaurs like James May & his sniggering chums are; in my opinion (not worth much really), they help to foster a sort of "get your t**ts out for the lads", poke you in the eye/ it's only a larf geezer mentality, that is about about as subtle as the blitz.
The media seems to value these 'soundbite' type "entertainers" who really should have been put out to grass years ago. It seems to feed into a sort of awful void where people think that they are all entitled to say anything we/they like at any time night or day. You've only got to look at the opinion forums like The Daily Mail or MSN to read people being abusive to complete strangers, and of course,.. being racist.

On the Renault 4 forum; the home of the universal 'Car of the People' - i feel we welcome all our fellow Renault 4 owners - from around the globe - I know I do!
Finally, as my grandmother might have said about people like James May and his ilk, "Remember son, never talk on an empty head".

Right that's my pennorth (and quite HEAVY)!
Good night all from sunny Portugal xx
P.S. A day at the lakes with my daughter & the quatrelle - attached.
