I've currently got a Femsa on the R4, but when I put in the 1.4 auto engine a Ducellier distributor came with the block.
What I'm trying to find out is, is there any significant difference between a distributor for an automatic and a manual?
As the 1.4 came from an R5 automatic.
Any help, as always, gratefully accepted.

Hello Rudi, hope you are well.

I am not aware that different distributors were used for manual and automatic. Is the Femsa one packing up? If your engine came with the Ducellier and you want to use it again then why not? Just make sure that everything works on it before fitting it.

What matters is the advance curve that the distributor gives. All R4 distributors will fit on all R4 engines, and the engine will run, but for optimum performance the distributor (better: its advance curve) must be suitable for the engine.
The advance curve is described by two codes stamped on the distributor body: Rxxx (centrifugal) and Cxx (vacuum, if any). They are irrelative of distributor manufacture.Check them, if they are different keep each distributor on its original engine.
