Hi All,

1 1/2 months to go to this years snow Rallaye. This year to the Pyrenees.

I bought some new rear view wing mirrors from Der Fanzose.

I fitted them and I cant see behind when I look across at the passenger side wing mirror.

Anyone had the same problem? Solution?

This is a common problem when fitting a driver's side mirror on the passenger side on any R4. The only ones that were factory fitted were on the F4/F6 and they had a longer arm for this very reason: to position the mirror at the correct angle for viewing from driver's seat. Maybe you can make it work by drilling the mounting holes at a different position, having an assistant hold the mirror on the door to deermine the best place. That said, I have never made a passenger mirror work for me, so I fit them just for aesthetics, or for parking help.
Another issue on such reproduction mirrors is that the mirror glass is of very poor quality, giving a very limited view scope and distorted images.

The original mirrors were made by Cipa and were of good quality. Later 'after-market' ones of lower quality were sold, still made Cipa. Over the last decade some very low quality copies of Cipa mirrors have become commonly sold by many of the parts specialists, (sometimes describing them as 'original'!).

Mirror Refurbishment Parts:
If yours are genuine Cipa, I have new surrounds and high quality convex glasses for them. The convex glasses give a wider view, so may(?) help with your situation. If yours are not genuine Cipa, I do not know whether my glasses will fit, as I have not tried one on a copy-mirror yet.
(I also have refurbishment parts for other types of Cipa mirrors, as well as Geco and Gemo).

Do you have convex glass and surround for the Geco mirror? Please send me a PM with price and shipping to Greece.

As well as having convex glasses and surrounds for 6 types of Cipa mirrors, I have them (& some other parts) for at least 6 types of Geco mirrors too, covering most Renaults, Peugeots, Citroëns, etc, (cars and vans), from the mid 1960s and into the 1980s.
If you put your address/details in my website, any item (s) you add to the cart will instantly show you the order price and the shipping cost to your address, anywhere in the world.

Mine are the same Franzose mirrors. They are cheap reproductions and rust spots appear very quickly, but oddly doesn't get much worse over the next 10 years. With flat glass the mirror is too far away to be useful anyway. I couldn't get the glass out of mine as the white plastic seal is very stiff.

This is why I sell replacement surrounds made from silicone rubber, so they are flexible and can easily be removed if you need to fit a new (convex) glass. They are light grey: the same colour as the original hard plastic surrounds, which you simply cut out (if they haven't crumbled away due to U.V.light). I used silicone rubber for my replacements because it's not affected by U.V. light or temperature, so stays flexible for decades.

Thanks chaps I thought i was going a nbit mad but it seems i have fitted correctly.
