Not dropping the bung....

We took the R4 out for its first long run at the weekend, to a car show in the 'Suisse Normande'. A fellow owner remarked that the cooling water looked a bit like soup, and after telling him it was on my list I tackled it today. The Haynes book of not very useful information says that there is a bung on the back of the block that is 'fiddly' to get out. I got it out ok, but thought that putting it back may be more difficult.
After a bit of lunchtime pondering I came up with this solution - find a length of suitable size rubber hose, thread a length of cotton through it, push the 6 sided end of the bung in the hose, tie the other end of the cotton to the gear lever, then if you fumble it the bung won't disappear into the gravel and there will not be a lot of swearing.
It worked a treat, got the bung in a couple of threads, pulled off the rubber sleeve, tightened it back up - job done!104_4333.JPG
