Lifted up front mat and trying to remove the old black layer - damp and rust trap... and disintegrating 'cellophane' surface layer

Some questions please team

1 - any tips ? Suspect residue will me down to a wire brush and elbo grease!
2 - Was thinking of painting bare surface with hammerite black mat before new underfelt Any recommendations/suppliers?
3 - Why the bungs? Was the Quatrelle designed to be amphibious?
4 - can you get new 'bungs' - one popped out and I'd like to make a perfect job.

Thanks

Mark

Hello Mark, use a combination of power tools, abrasives and wire brushes to remove all rust and other unwanted material. Pay a visit to this web site - there are lots of good products here.

Always paint bare metal with a a rust preventative paint before using a top coat such as Hammerite. The work you're proposing can get very messy - best to remove the front seats for easier access and use dust sheets wherever you can. Don't forget to buy some goggles unless you like visiting A&E to remove small pieces of metal from your eyes!!

I'm sure someone must have a spare 'bung'. Remove these to get access to the inside of the chassis for rustproofing purposes.
