I have a 89 renault 5 and have just noticed that I have oil all around the inside of my n/s drive wheel ,the engine and gearbox is free from oil (no apparent leaks)and the only visable oil is around the inner wheel arch and the inner hub etc.

Any ideas anyone?

It sounds to me as if your outer drive shaft gaiter has a split and the oil is, in fact, the runny grease used to lubricate the joint. Your Renault garage will have the special tool to replace the gaiter - not a DIY job I'm afraid. If the grease has gone all over the pads and disc you'll need to replace the pads and thoroughly wash all the grease away.

Got it

Hi,

The problem was a split on the drive shaft boot which released the molten grease which I assumed was oil.Panic over!
Sorry steve just read your post you are spot on,yes it has made a mess of the pads which I will have to replace again. :( Thanks for the info. :P
regards
Mark.
