My car is reluctant to start when it has been left for a couple of days. It is as though the petrol has drained out of the pump.I notice that the removable cover on the pump is at the bottom of the pump, pointing downwards. In all the illustrations I have seen, the cover is on the top. (the pump may have been removed at some time) Do you think my pump has been installed upside down? .

No-some has it as you say upside down.It would be impossible to turn it the wrong way. you might install one of those rubber-pumps (bladder)you'd
find between tank and ouboard-motors on smaller boats,but you'd have to open bonnet and give it a squeese or two to prime.....-R.

I've had one of those manual rubber hand pumps installed so that if the car is left for a few weeks we can manually pump petrol into the carburettor to help it to start. See http://renault4.co.uk/forum/threads/r4-poor-cold-starting.7004/#post-42664
