Phone in the ventilation shaft

Dear R4 friends, as we had an embarrasing small incident yesterday, may you please help Is there any possibility for reaching and pulling out fallen smart phone from the ventilation shaft without removing the dashboard panel (steering wheel incl.)?? :idea:

PS: Please don't try this at home, dash blowers are surely not the best places to hold the phone in a car

Can you still see/feel the phone? If so, maybe some plasticine or double sided tape on the end of a screwdriver or stick will hold it long enough for you to grab.

Did you get it out? Poking a couple of strips of metal or wood with tape on them might work. I'm not sure if the flaps come out and go back in easilly. If they do then it will be by poking a screwdriver down the side to prise them off their tabs could help. Otherwise dash off with a few screws (GTL is really easy to remove) or poke the phone to the middle and take the heater off and reach up from there.

There is no inaccessible place where the phone can rest, but you have to remove the heater, unfortunately, including its matrix. Depending of the dashboard you have, it may not be necessary to remove it.
On the upper side of the square cut-out for the heater, there are two large rectangular holes, the phone can be reached through them.

Has happened to me some years ago, when a not so clever passenger thought these holes on the dashboard, perfect for storing a mobile phone, was a cool feature for a '60s car...Phone fell in the heater after I climbed over a kerb to park the car after a 30-kilometer twisty mountain road trip!

thank you very much for the great tips guys, unfortunately yes, the phone is still in the shaft, as you wrote i tried to think about dash and mid panel removal and getting there thru the square cut-out void under mid panel, but i see that water cooling system has to be drained and unplugged, so I will try the sticky tape trick - looks much more time effective )) Sad thing is that phone is already dead so its position is very questionable, but surely worth of a try :idea: I will be back with report soon

ok, its one month since my friend Andy didnt post in this thread so lets finish the story... In fact, it was my R4 starring in this game and my phone who was a victim in this "crime" :eek:

Even thought the phone has fallen into the ventilation shaft inside the car, we took it out while being outside of the car (we took down the plastic ventilation covering) The phone seemed to fall out into the area bellow this covering - and into a hole inside this area. As the best solution has finally appeared the double sided tape (thanks guys for this tip) A little microsurgery ability and patience was necessary.

It is necessary to mention, that we didnt know the phone is in the exterior in fact for the 2 weeks it was inside. Thanks god there was no rain meantime

hi Edtom I think I'm on to it at last.... Finally tracked down an old colour reference card showing a 1977 colour . I know this must be a GTL however based on the grille. So if you are interested I think it's bleu Clair 77
