I have finished getting my little Michelin van ready for the CT tomorrow but due to that saga with the vacuum problem I think someone has been tweaking the dissy to compensate as although she goes well, in top gear on acceleration she "pinks" a bit, is this a straight forward timing correction?
Everything is new from the points to the coil
Thank you

The 1108 is sensitive to pinking. Though does your F4 have the 956 or the 850 engine? No idea how either of those behave.

I tend to set the timing of my 1108 to roughly 4 degrees retarded from the standard setting. At least that's what I think I started out doing. Now I just set it right in the middle of the two marks on the gearbox casing. That's to compensate for unleaded fuel which is more prone to pinking.

One thing I have noticed is that the balance weight springs in 20 year old distributors do vary. I had one distributor that wouldn't stop pinking. Swapped it for another and all was fine. Could be that.
