Problem fitting engine bracket

I recently removed the starter motor from my TL to see if it was the source of my starting problems. The guy I took it to said it was fine and that it probably was an electrical problem. Any ideas how I look for source of the problem?

Anyway, reinstalling the starter motor wasn't a problem but when it came to putting the engine bracket back that goes over the starter motor. It doesn't seem to fit. The bolt holes are quite far from each other. It's as though the engine has moved. Any ideas on how I fit this bracket back in.

Thanks

Will

You might need to jack up the bottom of the engine a little to take the weight off the mount - they can bend a little when the brace is removed.

What was the problem with starting? If the starter motor occasionally didn't turn at all then that's normally clutch dust on the solenoid that can be cleaned off.

I'll try jacking up the engine. Which is it that bends, the bracket I've taken off? or the mount? Any other tips, should I try and force it on?

The starting problem is that now and again I turn the ignition key and nothing happens. I took the starter motor to a guy who specialises in starter motors he tested it quite a lot and it never failed. I told him about cleaning the soloniod and he couldn't see how you'd get at it. Niether can I. I've had a look at the pictures in the tech tips section, but I couldn't see what to take off. Perhaps I have a different type of starter motor.

Thanks for your help.

Sounds like the tech tips section needs a new photo. There are two bolts that go through the solenoid. Once they are removed the solonoid can come apart for cleaning. It's a cheaper option than a new starter motor.

Shouldn't be any need to force anything on the engine mounts. From memory the engine mount is cantilevered from the block so any bending happens close to the bolt that holds the engine mounting onto the block.

Thanks for your time Clementine

I undid the two small bolts on the starter motor but I couldn't get the cover off. I didn't want to pull to hard incase I broke something. Perhaps I should try again. I'll take some photo's and post them up here if it's a problem.
