Renault 4GTL GFR 957Y (LHD) affectionally known as Geoffrey
Started life in 1983 in the south of France he had one owner a Mr Alphonse Vassal he was brought to the UK by Bramfield Garage Halesworth Suffolk in June 2013 with 112,800 Kilometres on the clock.
We are told that Bramfield subjected Geoffrey to a rebuild including giving him a thorough underseal, hence no rust on the chassis (often commented on by MOT inspectors). There is some evidence of this as I found in a box of parts, it included suspension and clutch replacements etc.
He was purchased by Mr J Mellor in December 2015 who proceeded to register the car in the UK.
I purchased the car from Mr Mellor 07/05/2019 sometime before purchase it was fitted with a
mileometer hence the future MOT’s contained milage and not kilometres (I still have the original).
GFR 957Y was declared a historic vehicle 26/06/2024 and is therefore not obliged to be MOTed or Taxed although it must be roadworthy. Insurance is of course a classic car one and costs me £110.00 a year with an agreed value of £10,000. The agreed value is due to be increased as these little gems are becoming exceeding rare particularly in this condition.
The car whilst in my ownership has travelled to France and toured Wales their have been issues, a shattered windscreen (original ) in France was replaced in the UK with a laminated one. Also the
distributor rotor cracked and had to be replaced. Otherwise a very reliable tourer/runabout.
I have just replaced the brake shoes on the rear and discs on the front. The condition of the discs and drums lead me to believe they were replaced at some time. The rear nearside wing was also replaced and sprayed along with the offside wing and bonnet. You will see in the photo he has chrome hubcaps, I have replaced these with the original caps. The hubcaps and fittings are in a box of bits supplied with the car and can therefore be reinstated if required.
There is also a tow bar fitted (unused), a stereo system, a roof rack and usb ports.
We have experience of Renault 4’s, (this is our third one) we have enjoyed them all particularly this one, the GTL has enough power to cope with motorway driving and is a pleasure to drive.
We will miss the car, unfortunately we are loosing garage space (to many cars) and our lifestyle has changed.
There is a genuine reason for selling this much loved car, we have enjoyed Geoffrey so much over the years. He is very much an appreciating classic. His condition is excellent inside and out with only the odd blemish which comes to us all when we reach a certain age. He is insured with a classic car insurance company for an agreed value of £10,000 this will only increase over time. Located in Newton Abbot, Devon
I’m looking for sensible offers for an appreciating classic.
