I just thought I would tell you:roll: I just bought a R5super 1990 one of my neighbours (5klm away) has just bought a Mazda and thought I would like it as the Mazda dealer said they would crush it:eek: its very tidy and has done 120000klm and runs as sweet as a nut, it has a few niggley things of course and I will have to give it a good check over as it only has a year CT and it needs 18months plus to change ownership so has to go for a new one
Picked it up for 300€ he started at 600:p
Any expert advise, something to look out for would be gratefully received.
I convinced my long suffering wife it would be a good car tidy up and to sell:cool:

are you rescuing all the old cars in your area ?
hope you have got plenty of room as soon all mannner of waifs and strays will find their way to your doorstep

a good friend of mine started like that 20 +yrs ago and some are still in the barn he bought to put them in !!

5 supers(never officially called that in uk ) are fine cars but not much in common with early 4/5s and still go rusty :(

ask away my brain wont have to be tested so much as still fixing/ breaking 5s

very few 4s in to fix recently but do miss them ( hence why i am on here practicing my one finger typing skills :) )

I know:roll: the trouble is everyone knows of the mad Englishman with the beret is a car fanatic, this is the 3rd car where "concessionaires" are crushing anything older than 15yrs old even if they are nice did I mention the BX GTi, it was stunning, with only 80k klm, it looked NEW but Peugeot was going to crush it I paid 800€ i service it CTd it and sold it for 2300€

I still have 5hectares of land to fill and the maire has allowed me to extend the garden by another 10m all round that gives me 2000sqm more:eek: as my friend keeps saying; "parking, parking,"

the R5 is a "saga", I have had a look around and it looks ok, even underneath but where particularly do they rot? so I know where to look?
The engine looks similar to the R4 1108 but just transverse, its still got points but has a cartier box attached
Is the carb weber? It looks different are they OK it runs smoothly though

we could carry on by PM or email but as we are providing entertainment/education for fellow fans i will continue

super 5 has indeed variation of 4 engine but head casting is different on ports as well as waterpump casting wrong end (have already covered interchange i think )

electronic cartier box is basically transistor assisted points setup (again discussed on previous posting ) they do go wrong and i used to bypass regularly for the poverty stricken

i have this week (and previously) used 5 ducellier distributor as direct FEMSA replacement with the added advantage of external dwell adjuster

rustwise worse area is around screen frame and on 3dr models b pillar rear window hinge area
sills and inner sills can rust obviosly although may be good even if rusty round screen or vice versa

base models have no temp guage and 4 spd

is that enough info for you ?

ps
i was born in 1960 and been playing with renaults since 1974 , consequently have gone grey hence my beret idea as well

Thats cool thanks, I am not keeping it I have enough to drive I will just knock it out.
It is a 5door and I can't see any body rust at all
I will check out the other posts for the cartier!
PM me with your head size, its the monthly market next week I will pick you up a proper French one
