Yesterday my 1123, 850cc, 1975, beloved 4L had the chassis severely damaged, far too expensive to be worth a restoration .
I'm thus searching for another Renault 4.
I fund a lovely Renault 4 TL dated 1986, with a 950cc engine.

Since I will keep the old 1123 for spare parts, would it be possible to mount a 850 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renault_Billancourt_engine (I'm so happy with that) on a younger 1986 R4 TL

Would you suggest the move from the 850cc to the 950cc engine?
Or - for a more effective re-use of spare parts from my old one - should I buy another 1123?

Thanks a lot

The '86 R4 is rather different in most points regarding parts interchangeability.
It is possible to swap the 850cc engine - along with gearbox and radiator - but it would be a real downgrade, there is really no point in doing this.
If you feel that you must keep the soul of your '75 alive, and its bodywork is sound, I would suggest building a hybrid with the '86 chassis and mechanicals and the '75 body and interior. It's not as complicated as it seems.
