Hi All. Ronnie the Renault, my 1985 845 L in France blew his head gasket last year. After a long period of convalescence, and a lot of money, I have got him back. The head has been done. I had a new water pump fitted at the same time and various other things. The garage has put the carburettor back on and the car works and i have it back. However, there is a certain hesitation when you press the accelerator . Once the revs are up, it runs well and feels good but take your foot off and the engine is not so happy. Sometimes there appears to be like a misfire at tick over, a lumpiness, which does not sound or feel "right". The inside of the exhaust is a bit sooty.
I can go back to the garage, and he will take the car , and he will have it for the summer and I won't be driving it till I go in September. So if I can set it myself that would be great, because I can then get on with driving the car.
So far I have adjusted the end of the accelerator screw so the car tick over is better. I have then screwed in and out the mixture screw to find the nicest sounding, smoothest beat, and that has improved things. Have not assessed yet whether this has improved sootiness. Bit difficult unless I clean the exhaust, which is possible of course.
I dont know what sort the carb is, Paul Cunningham thought it was not a 281F from photos. But Paul is a little involved at the moment so i dont want to bother him.
I will be back in France after June 6 and can take snaps of the installation then and post them.
So any advice that will help a non mechanic set up the carb would be well received. Thank you.
