Tyre size again

Hi. I've just purchase a 4GTL which has a mixture of 135 and 145 tyres on. I know standard is 135 and 145 on the vans. I have looked through the forum and read the discussions but there doesn't seem to be a strong opinion about which way to go. What is the latest thinking? I was hoping I would only need two as the vendor said the 2 front 145's were new. They are 12 years old so I'm going to replace all four once I have decided on the size and refurbed the wheels

I prefer 145 tyres - the speedo is more accurate and the engine rpm lower, and in these days of large wheels and tyres they don't look quite as small as 135s.

Am I daft, I always thought the only difference with 135/145 was the width of the tyre?

I want to put a set of period style tyres on my 1966 car and have been looking at, bad spelling coming up, Pirelli Cinturato's. Any thought before I spend the extra...

Height of tyre is written in percentage of the tyre width.
So 145/80/13 tell you next
145 mm width
80 is actually 80% of 145mm what would be 116mm.
13 is diameter of the tyre in inch

134/80/13 is little bit lower tyre than 145/80/13. 108mm instead od 116mm.

Hope i was not to boring. :D

Decided to go for the 145 width. I found that there is more availability. Learnt today that this size has become more popular with some modern electric cars. Better for us. Not intending buying premium tyres but I have had bad experience with trying to balance some Chinese tyres I inherited on my MX5. Not all Chinese tyres are bad especially if they are producing for the big internationals for a cheaper range. I use two local places and one has offered me Mohawk at £30 each fitted. They are Yokohama company. The other place has offered be Achilles, a Malaysian company for the same price. Any thoughts welcome.

Try to find tyres of well known brands, even if they are a little more expensive. I have had all sorts of trouble with unknown makes that are (said to be) branches of known tyre makes.

I won't touch cheap tyres. Had a set of new, budget tyres fitted on a Mazda a couple of years back and they were terrifying, especially in wet / damp conditions. Fitted a set of Yokohamas to it and the car was genuinely transformed.
