Just bought a pair of TRAYAL tyres for my R4. They're marked "Made in Serbia and Montenegro"
I don't think I've ever bought anything that's made in Serbia- makes a nice change from "made in China"

I bought a pair recently for £30 made in Holland for Swiss firm Maloya. I'm hoping they'll be good. Earlier in my R4 history I bought a pair of Montanas for £41 from Romania; they are almost in the M&S category. All from eBay of course and all fitted at home. Just need to get them balanced..................

Then you paid an excellent price for them. i went to 3 different places and my best price was 35Euro, plus 19%tax plus 5Euro balancing. Came to about 47Euro and that was for EACH tyre!!!

pays to shop around, but I was too impatient

Hi Sage, what tools do you need to fit tyres at home? I need some, but once fitting is added to mail-order prices it seems no cheaper than buying them fitted in a tyre shop.

I bought a couple of tyre levers on eBay, also valves, valve puller, and tyre lubricant, all for about £20. The difficult bit is getting the old tyre off the rim but there are various ways of doing this and it can actually turn out quite easy - I made a T-piece of 2 bits of wood - one long, about 1.5m (the lever) and one short, 40cm or so, (the fulcrum?) then with wheel flat on ground, short piece on wheel rim edge, long end under towbar on my Land Rover, press down on other end and off the rim goes the old tyre. Then easily removed using tyre levers, with a little assistance from a hammer - basically replicating what your professional tyre fitters do.
Putting the new tyres on is easy as long as you remember to make use of the trough in the middle of the wheel to allow the tyres to go over the rim. Plus you need the tyre lubricant - slightly diluted washing up liquid can also work.
Then comes the hard bit - blowing the tyre up and getting it to pop on to the rim - pretty much impossible with just a foot pump but easy if you have a compressor with a reservoir. Otherwise you could always pop down to Tesco's and put 20p in their airline and select 'flat tyre' (but I used a compressor so can't guarantee the Tesco method).

Have to admit that my towbar-based method for getting old tyre off rim failed me tonight. However my bench vice came to the rescue as I managed to squeeze both sides off, probably only possible on my vice with 135 wide tyres.

You made a good purchase. TRAYAL is a factory with solid experience and knowledge in tyre production. It is more to be compared with leading manufacturers in the industry. The only thing I am confused a bit is made in Serbia and Montenegro, since discontinuation of federation had happened in 2007. Seems it is an old stock..

I'm very happy with the tyres, I read that Cooper Tyres from the USA bought the car tyre factories from Trayal last year. Perhaps they bought the factory in Serbia and also the one in Montenegro?

Trayal kept the factories that make truck and motorcycle tyres
