Valve clearance

845 engine in Renault 6 - head has been removed, skimmed and replaced with new head gasket.
The Haynes manual gives the following info -
Cold Exhaust valve clearance 0.20 mm
Cold Inlet valve clearance 0.15 mm

but then goes on to say "if the head has been taken off the gaps should be set 0.2 mm more than specification in the first instance."

So, do I set the gaps at 0.40 exhaust and 0.35 inlet?
This seems quite excessive, what do they mean by "first instance"?
Has anyone followed this advice or do you just go for the recommended setting?

I have never read this, they may had given this instruction so that, when you re-torque the head after initial start up, there will be no need to reset rocker arm clearances. Is this 0.2mm right, or does it say 0.02mm?
I would set the gaps to 0.15 / 0.20 (without being too precise), run the engine, let it cool down, retorque the bolts and reset rocker arm clearances.

Thanks for your reply, I also had to check if it said 0.2 or 0.02 but it definitely is the larger one.
I have done exactly as you suggested but not yet ready to fire up the engine - hopefully do that over the weekend.
