Wanted - Bulkhead bonnet release fitting

Hi All,
So my R4 GTL (1985) has the interesting issue that when you press the bonnet release lever the bonnet doesn't pop up any more by itself, so the only way to open it is with the door open press the release button, and lift the bonnet up with your fingers at the same time.

I believe I have traced it to the bonnet release mechanism on the engine side of the bulkhead, having sheared a piece of the spring off that spring loads the bonnet normally. I have attached a picture of the offending part and wondered if anyone had one around that they'd want to sell?

I was happy to buy the whole fitting - rather than just the spring and it looks like just two nuts and releasing it from the release arm to take off. Happy to pay P+P if you are not local to North Hertfordshire. If you can help drop me a PM, or text / call 07765 713967.

Thanks

Hi Snailshed, if you have no luck, Der Franzose in Germany have them for mail order on their web page.

The problem happens because the spring (pictured) jumps out of the little clip when the bonnet is lifted. The last two R4s I've had both suffer from this problem. Solution — when you have opened the bonnet, push the spring back into the clip before closing it and then the bonnet will open normally next time (and so ad infinitum).

Hi, the photo is of the release fitting with the current issue described. It all looks correct yet still has lost the spring loading, so I can only guess that the end of the spring at the top should end the other side of the v slot for the fitting on the bonnet.

You are looking at the wrong end of spring
It's the bit nearest bulkhead that has hot bent out of shape and not staying engaged
I have used cable tie but takes a while to position as if too tight it won't release
Sometimes mole grips will reshape spring to stay in or change catch but it is common especially if bonnet alignment out

Hi, so I was right in that a piece on the end visible in the picture has sheared off, as you can see it there in the pictures on Der Franzose of a new one.

If anyone has a used one still interested, but I can get it from DF if not.
Thanks
