Although I don't have an R4 yet (still looking) I would like to make a start by rebuilding a larger engine for later installation. Consequently I looking for an 1100 or 1300 complete with ancillaries (very cheap) preferably around Bedford if possible. Not much to ask I know, but if anyone could help I'd much appreciate it.

If you buy a R4 GTL then you've already got an 1100 engine. If you buy an 850cc and want to put in a bigger motor, you'll have to start moving things around a bit- like the radiator.
You'll have to do a bit of research on installing a 1300 engine. If you look through the posts on this website you'll undoubtedly find the answers. If you don't then there are plenty of people who can give you answers
Good luck with your project

hi there good luck with finding a renault 4 there are still loads out there just most of the good ones arent for sale
and there are plenty of people looking to make money out selling on a tarted up car
engines are rarely a problem maybe buying a mig welder and practicing would be a better thing to do this early on while you are still looking
i saw your post last night and was going to say the same thing as abovebut we are friendly lot on here and keep asking questions but there is a lot of information already on here

Thanks for the supporting messages. When not working in the uk I actually live in the Limousin, central France and have restored quite a few cars in the past, but never a Renault so I will be looking for a LHD car nearer to home in the future but thought that I might rebuild an engine in my spare time.
