My renault laguna diesel every now and then will suddenly
lose throttle, will make a spluttering sound and will only travel at a snails pace. Putting my foot down to try and clear it only made it feel worse, then suddenly it would burst into life creating a huge black cloud of smoke at the back. The fuel injection system fault warning comes on while this happens but then goes away when i have turned the car off for a while and everything is fine for weeks until it happens again. I have taken it to a local garage and have had the fuel system flushed through. Its not worked!
Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with a vel satis.
After many trips to the renault agents it was finally cured by changing the deisel injector pump.

fuel injection fault

Thanks for the info, I just hate it when renault garages charge £50 just to look at the car, and even get it wrong sometimes!

First thing to do is check the egr valve is working, they can stick in the 'open' position and cause lack of power or cutting out at idle.
