Hello,
"Cliche" from andrew's r5 gordini site said you guys might be able to help me out with some engine assembly problems, hope you can...

i fitted the gudgeon pins, straight out the freezer , into the hot conrod and got it almost all the way, but not quite. Im now stuck, ive tried heating the conrod eye locally and squeezing it all together in a vice but it won't budge, any more pressure and i might damage the piston.

Basically im lost, and need help, my next step would be to try and water cool the bore of the gudgeon pin, whilst heating the conrod eye, but it be a pain to setup.

when the pin was freezer cold and the conrod was hot, the pin went through easy- by hand. it heated up quick though and locked, now i cant get it any further, as heating seems expands the pin too.

also, anyone know of 840 gordini engine has offset bore/conrods, I'll find out when i put the piston in (if i ever do!) but it would help me plan the ppin position.

Can anyone shed any light, ive totally messed this up. :(

Thanks

Go to an engine reconditioning shop, machinist etc that has a press and push the pin at its correct position on it. There is no other way to do this.

It has happened to me two or three times, that's life...These press fit pins always need you to be super cool and clear-minded when fitting them...

You mean offset pin hole in the piston? I don't know but it's easy to figure it out, just measure with vernier calipers from one edge of the pin hole to the skirt edge, then to the opposite edges and you will know for sure.

Dry Ice (-78C) is what is used to cool the pins. The freezer (-18C) isn't sufficient.
I leave this kind of specialist work to an engine workshop
