Help renault megane scenic rx4 ran out of diesel

Hi

I have a scenic rx4 2001 1.9 dci,the wife ran out of diesel at the weekend I pushed it to the garage for her and put some in and let the primer pump run and it started fine,but the engine management light came on and the STOP light is on and according to the book I have to take in to renault and they want to charge £75 just to diagnose it,has anyone got any ideas or any advice as to what to do.

If it's all primed up and starting well you could try keying off, removing the key, putting the key back in and starting again. Do that 3 times and the stop light might go off.

Not sure if that applies to Renaults, but the diagnostics on a lot of modern cars will need 3 runs without problems to turn the engine check light off. Though a stop light sounds more serious than an engine check light so it might not apply.

This happened to my friends Renault when i changed the fuel filter for him I tried the "know" 3 runs but it didn't work in the end he took it to Renault who plugged it in cleared it no charge

I have found a nice guy that for £10 he plugged his unit in and cleared the error.
