Help us please!

Our GTL rear offside trailing arm has rusted through. The wheel is at an alarming angle and is rubbing on the inner wing! I think there are two types of trailing arm
, but I'm not sure which type I've got and also where you can get them from?

Also, does the drum need replacing? Is there a way to tell which type of drum goes with which trailing arm?

Also, what else would need doing? Would any bushes need to be ordered separately, etc?

My local garage might be able to do it if I can get the parts.

Many thanks for any advice, we want to get him back on the road as soon as possible!

Yes! Thank you. I've asked if he can post to England.

I've also contacted Simon of Renault Reborn who tells me that no one seems to supply trailing arms any more.

Your best bet would be to try to find the complete rear suspension as the link above and change it in 1 piece. The people in the UK with lots of cars in bits that I can think of are alewis, Bobble, Renospeed, Mr Reno,

I have one......but it is so hard to ship to UK.

Not in perfect condition. Welded and repaired before but can be used. Will post pictures.
And shipment would not be cheep.

Sad that i can not help you more.

Hi Jjad, I saw one in the R4 club warehouse the other day. Can ask if its stil there?
I've got a complete set of those in stock, but sort of reluctant to sell it.
And I have a complete cast iron axle for you. I can take it apart and put it on transport. with package post.
You can use the original brakes and put them on the new axle.
And while you are at it replace bearings, break pads and pumps.

Thanks, I think a complete unit would be best if you could see if one is still available please.
Many thanks

Well, @harbourseal has very kindly sourced a complete rear axle for me!

Our GTL is off the road for now (SORNed), and will miss the Kent Run, but hopefully we'll be there in our other car to collect harbourseal's rear axle!

Huge thanks to harbourseal and to everyone else who replied too.

Looking forward to getting him back on the road :)

Great!
Love the colour of your GTL btw
Think about putting the side indicator of the italian version :D

Thanks, the colour is very unusual in the UK - our GTL is from Slovenia.

I thought about changing the lights when we had new front wings, but as they are in the A-panels, they would then also need repairing.

Great news Jonathan, just in time for the Kent Run.

Thanks Brian! Although Kent is not as far away as it is for you, it's a bit too far for us now this year. Hopefully someday!

Sorry you can't make it this year Jonathan, hopefully catch up in the near future. B.

Happy news! :drunk:

Finally you are back in "shaking stove" as some are calling R4 here in Croatia, passionately....
Came out of idea that you put things in it like in stove thru big rear doors.

Happy shaking, swinging miles i wish you! ;)

What else was done on car beside rear axle?

What else was done on car beside rear axle?

Thanks petak,

as well as replacing the rear axle:
  • Chassis was shotblasted and repainted.
  • Outer rear suspension mounts were replaced.
  • New front cross member.
  • New brake pipes, front discs, wheel cylinders, hoses and master cylinder.
  • Stripped engine and replaced crankshaft oil seal and rocker gasket.
  • New clutch.
  • New exhaust system.
  • Wheels powder coated.
  • Repaired wiring to rear of car.
  • Repainted bumpers.
  • Repairs to rear seatbelt mounts and around wheel arches and around boot.
  • New rear rings.
I like the "shaking stove" name :)

Quite big job was done....You actually renew it.

Was body removed from chassis?
