Got the old rear bearing out measured it: (making a lot of noise)

Inside diameter: 20

Width: 15

Outside diameter: Which one?

As my bearing is tapered (single line) there are 4 outside diameters?

There is the outer of the outside of the wider end 37mm

There is the inside of wider end 30mm

There is the outside of the thinner end 30mm

There is the inside of the thinner end 27mm

To make it all the more confusing the simply bearings.co.uk show the only outside diameter they have with inner 20mm and width 15mm is
Diameter 42mm???

Cheers

If you look on the side of the bearing, usually the main casing, larger part, you should see a part number. This can be cross referenced at a bearing suppliers to find the bearing you need. Or you could just order the bearings you need from Melun Retro or De Franzose, as they both list them. When you refit the centre nut it just needs to be hand tight, no more than that, then fit the locking cover, and always use a new split-pin.

Recently have changed rear bearings and have used SKF bearing kit VKBA652.
Inside you get inner bearing, outer bearing, spline pin and dust ring

Have fond bearing designations but do not know which is inner, and which is outer.
Designations are SKF 01182 and SKF 01185.

And here is rear wheel bearing dimensions that is given by renault for Renault GTL (for 1128 model)

SKF says that same bearing kit goes on 1123 model

Hope this will help

Hi, found the same but these products are manufactured only on request and must orderlenty of? Where did y find these directly without any R4 dealer(like franzözer etc)?

I bought them from local car part shop here in Croatia!

They are not even expensive.
Two rear sets (for both wheels) some 50€ (25€ set) and two front sets some 45€ (22,50€ set)

I bought mine on ebay couple weeks ago. £8 inc postage, came with inner and outer bearings, grease, split pin and two types of dust seal. It's a Veco VK092 kit.

Looks like he's got one left.

Fits Renault

Bearing and how much give/wiggle is ok?

The size was 15 X 20 X 42

The 42 was the outside of the bit that is stuck inside the wheel.

Hence the confusion.

I replaced the rear left bearing. It was a little tricky getting the old one out but with a chisel and a hammer and patientce.

A little tip I was told by a bloke at Kent Bearings:

Use the old bearing housing to tap the new bearing housing onto the wheel
HOWEVER be careful because if you are not careful the old bearing will get stuck in the wheel along with the new one.

I used a screw driver to get the old wheel bearing in the last 5mm.

QUESTION:

Car is jacked up.

Wheel back on.

Spins easily and quietly

I grab the wheel with both hands at positions qtr past and qtr to.

I wiggle the wheel in a skiing poling mostion.

There is a very very slight wiggle.

Is that ok or should they be completely solid with no wiggle.

If I thighten the bearing up tighter the wiggle is gone but the wheel hardly turns.

Any advice

slack in the drive shaft is normal, you will feel slightly.
if bearing ok, grab wheel at 12 and 6 o clock and rock. no play is good.
drive for 50 miles and re check.

Ok Cheers Puddleduck.

Will check after 50 miles.

Just worried about damage to the bearings.

They are not loose in any way.
