New Old Stock DeCarbon Gas Dampers - To buy or not to buy

Hi Guys,

My front shocks are clanking when the weather gets hot.
So I planned to replace them some day.

Now I found a pair of DeCarbon front gas dampers for a good price on eBay.
They are NIB but old stock. (Maybe 20+ Years of age.)

What do you think, is it worth to give them a shot or would it be a waste of money?
Do gas shocks loose their dampening quality by just laying around?

I don't know if I should spend the money or not.

Comments and opinions are highly appreciated !!!

Cheers,

David

I've got old stock ones on the Gordini and they seem OK.

With regards to where to buy parts, I have had good service and I think, competitive prices online from All Cars All Parts. I think you can buy more over the phone than they show on their site too. Worth a look see

I have a set of Dauphine rear dampers, in the same box as yours (about the same age-I guess late 60s!). I checked them on the bench, they appear to function correctly without any fluid leaks, pressure loss or malfunction. No one knows how long will they last on the car, however...

Double check that these are for 69 onwards R4s!! Earlier ones had different lower eye dimensions.
