Renault 4 1971 paint code 749 Rouge having problems locating suppliers any help much appreciated.

Hi Derek

You should be able to go into any car paint shop and quote the paint code and they should be able to make up tins of paint if spraying whole car or a rattle can if you are touching up. My local motor factor makes up rattle cans for my R4. Halfords also makes up rattle cans for approx £15.

I've been doing just that today the paint shop said no response from my paint code, they did a paint scan and test card just didn't come up right.

Hi Derek

It's a good paint code. That is strange. The paint scan should bring up a code. Did you get the paint code off the car? Stamped on o/s inner front wing. In handbook too if you have it.

As an afterthought, is it possible the car had a re-spray in the past with a similar colour to the original but not quite the same? Or do you think the paint is the original?

The car was restored by Renault Reborn 2020 , had a ding to rear wheel arch ,went in paint shop today and they couldn't get the paint code on the system tried a paint match didn't work so now looking myself.

I can drive my car to a paint specialist, or take a piece of the car and they have a gizmo that visual analyses a section of paint that you need to match, and then produces the paint colour in a tin or spray cans.
There must be one near you that the body shops use, and car restoration places use. It worked perfectly for me.

Hi Derek

It might be worth trying a different paint shop in your area to see if they can find a match.
Hi did just that today went to a different paint shop and they found a supplier that could mix the right paint code taking the car there tomorrow for a quotation thanks

Derek, in case you're having Only parts of your 4Limo resprayed: Remember that old paint will either be paled over time
-or in some cases could even have darkened. (especially if metallic)
(Red colours can be Especially tricky in that sense) -make Sure they take this into consideration b4 spraying to match original

Thats why , if you are only doing a panel or part of the car, matching the paint to what is there now makes making the car look good easier than going back to the original spec.
