That does look very nice!

The 1.7 is so much better to look after than a 1.4 Turbo!

If it gets so you wanted more performance it wouldn't be hard to drop the 2.0 fuel injected version in out of an old Laguna 2.0 RE
 
The German R5 scene is touting Renault-derived Volvo 1.8 and 2.0l engines, e.g. from the 480 as drop-in replacements.
 
Yeah funnily enough I had a 1.7lt Volvo 480es, you could up the engine to a 2.0 It injection and get a lovely reliable 130hp motor.
 
The 480 was a great little runabout ... apart from the built-in aquarium in the back :(

Bertl I agree about the water issues, but seal the back lights fully and its all sorted!
 
i drove 1,7 multipoint injection Super5 for last 11 years.
It is called GTE.
Beautiful little car with big engine. done km with it, all around Croatia!
Body rusted heavily so had to go. Mechanically was perfect.
Little sad about that car but this way is better.
Two projects in same time would be to much.
