would anyone know where to obtain a set of ignition points for a 1100cc 1986 Renault 5?

Paddy, you need to find out the make of the distributor first. Then try your local Renault garage, or a local motor factor who stocks Intermotor parts.
1986 was the year they changed from the Mk 1 R5 to the Mk 2 so you need to make it clear what model you own.

Paddy,
If you give the Renault garage the oval plate number of your car, they should be able to tell you exactly what's required.
If not, Marchants, (Whitehouse Renault) will do the same over the phone, and do mail order too. I have had very good service from them.

If you go into any garage here - Renault or Citroen - the first thing they ask for is the Carte Grise or log book with the chassis number on - not a bad idea to take a photocopy with the name of the distributor make on as well.
