Solex 32 BIS rebuild kit?

I know this is a R4 forum, and I have a R5, but after reading through your tech section I believe this site is a great source of information. Not to mention I believe the 1.1L engine could be found in the R4 as well. As a side note if I had the option between a R4 and a R5, I like the R4's better.

I have a 1989 R5 to drive around while in Spain. It has a 1.1L engine and 4 speed manual transmission. I gave it a tune-up right away; adjusted valves, verified cylinder compression, set timing, checked the cap and rotor, replaced the fuel filter, a well needed oil change, and adjusted the Solex 32 BIS carburetor, per the book. The carb had a very small vacuum leak, but I could not find a gasket for it. After a few weeks of running perfectly (fun and "zippy" little car); it now idling rough and dies once the the RPM is raised. The normal (after tune-up) visible squirting of fuel once the butterfly is opened has trickled to nearly nothing. This has led me to believe that it either needs to be rebuilt or replaced. After lots of time searching the internet I have not been able to find a rebuild kit, a replacement Solex 32 BIS, or a suitable substitute for it (Zenith 32 if 2?). If any one could point me to a source of parts, or another carb, or any other ideas I would be very grateful.

Also my local mechanic has informed me that those cars a rare to find around here, and parts are impossible to find.

These may help you with a kit. They are in Leighton Buzzard and I suggest you phone them. They will need the carb numbers and details of the car itself. You may also need to check your manifold gasket to see whether it's sucking air in.

This company is also helpful and I have bought many new carbs from them.
They have an online stock list.
Where are you in Spain? I bought a 32seia recon last time I was down in Spain.
If you locate a carb in UK and want it brought down I will be coming to Moraira Costa Banca in two weeks Gary

Gary, unfortunately my experience of these people was not good. They are also known as 'The Carburettor Hosptial' and after I was ripped off I felt that they should be hospitalised themselves! The carb they sold me as suitable for my R4 was in fact a Mk1 Vauxhall Viva carb with slots crudely hacksawed out to make it fit my manifold. When I tried to complain and return it I just met up with a brick wall and when I did finally manage to speak to someone it was clear that they did not not know one end of a carb from the other.
This is the reason why I recommend the Carburettor Exchange as they are clearly experts in their feild.

Steve my experience was the other way round with good experience from Carb hospital and poor from Carb Exchange.
I guess it is the luck of the draw.Gary
