Months of work finally culminated in a drive home yesterday. After rebuilding the engine, brakes, and cooling system I was hindered by a faulty voltage regulator, which took a week to arrive in the mail. I put that on yesterday and drove the fresh R5 15 miles from the garage where I have been doing the work, to the garage at my house. It now sits sandwiched between my VWs. That was a satisfying feeling. Now I have to sort some cosmetic issues and I'll be ready to surprise the American public with what has to be one of the last 5's on our shores.

Did you have to have the security escort to protect you on the way home

My first cars were VWs, 2 cars, a bus and a beach buggy. Miss them but now in France do as the French do ;)

Nice R5 too....

You have tight fit there in garage.......But i like it.....

Le car is fabulous!

Security escort, perhaps. I had a buddy drive my daily driver home. I think the bullying sign is especially poignant.

I had one of the us spec renault 5 le cars in blue 20 years ago loss of storage meant it got scrapped
Always meant to turn up at a local American and custom car show in it just to see wether they would let me in

The Le Car has now attended its first car show. I met with some local members of the Renault Owners Club of North America and we put on a small display. 4 Renaults in a sea of 3200 exotics, muscle cars, classic British cars and Japanese tuners. The reaction was fairly interesting ranging between bewilderment from younger folks to outright animosity on the part of one English fellow who let his 12 year old son know that the Renault 5 was "complete rubbish, horrible car." It was fun and I can't wait to do it again.

Brilliant! The R5 still has mixed reactions in the UK too but it's snobbery from the crowd that thinks some badly designed MG or Triumph is the only thing that can possibly be a classic.

I meet a lot of people who owned one 20 years ago and they love them.

I did not realize that super5 (one near Le Car) was ever sold in USA soil.

Well done you!
A great achievement.
3198 cars made without quirk.

And 2 that were!
Why does everyone have their back turned to the real exotics?

Petak, you are correct. The Super5 was never offered here. The example in the photo was imported after having aged the requisite 25 years (the US government likes its nonconforming vehicles to be of a certain vintage).

I think that super5 was from philadelphia area in the pass.
I have a super5 in the USA, but mine is the a GTT

Your lecar looks great!
