valve adjustment

Hello, what is normal quantity of sludge under motor cover? How can you clean it without using motor flush additives? I bought R4 87' with 180.000km and I think that my motor didn't have the best owner.

Had mine off a couple of weeks ago and it was very clean with no sludge.. mine is 1989 with 250k kms on the clock.

Looks like that engine saw very few times an oil change...
To be honest, I'm not sure I would clean it. I would be afraid of putting all that sludge around the engine.
Maybe I'd try to cover the holes of the pushroads and go for some diesel and a good brush.
After that I'd go for an immediate oil change, of course.

Hi Tine,
It looks like your engine did not get very many oil changes in its life.

You might want to try flushing the system while driving by pouring in 300ml automatic gearbox fluid.
drive for about 80km. That should loosen up the sludge.
After that do an oil change with the engine still warm.
Also change the oil filter and adjust the valve clearance.
And while you are at it change spark plugs, rotor, cables and the rotor cap.

succes,
Robert

Thank You harbourseal , that is what i need. Last time mechanic adjust my valves inlet and exhaust of one cylinder at same time when other cylinder where in TDS, I had doubts that wasnt ok....
