While Liam is on holiday (and hopefully not looking) I thought I'd try and snap up a GTL.

Anyone got a spare Renault 4GTL that they don't want any more? It can be in bits/seized/rusty - I want to use some of the mechanicals on a new project, and need a back end to fix a (old) bump in poor Ermintrude. I can pick up.

Also if anyone has a really good TL body sitting on an otherwise scrap car I'd be interested to save that too.

R4 Gtl C356 Rpb

I am storing the above in a railway arch in Southwark, London SE1. It failed its mot last September (?) on cracks at key points, suspension mountings etc which local garage said would cost £800 to repair. The motor/transmission is excellent, carb a bit worn, newish tyres. I have been using it for spares for my other GTL and have removed the water pump, drivers seat, two interior door panels. I will also be removing some side window sliding glass and, if possible without actually removing the door itself, the drivers side window surround which was broken on my working GTL by a radio thief. I will possibly take some other odds and ends. It had a new starter motor last year as well and a new clutch. Anyway, if you are interested, please get in touch.

The window frame is really quick and easy to remove - peel back the rubber from the inside and you should see some metal clips that push off with a screwdriver. I think there are about 6 of them on the front windows.

The car sounds like a good possibility. I'm thinking of hiring a car with trailer for a weekend for a countrywide Renault 4 picking up trip. It'll be in a month or two.

What colour is your interior? Wondering if the passenger seat could go into my yellow Renault.

The interior is tartan - a couple of years ago I had to secure the front passenger door interior trim using glued on velcro strips as the retaining clips had worn away the holes in the cardboard - this panel has since dropped off, but I'll leave all the panels for you to keep the interior complete. I am swapping the driver's seat with the identical tartan seat in my active GTL, which has a 4" tear in the grey plastic and a bit of wire spring sticking out of the backrest. The old rear seat back has a 6" tear in the tartan, but you could obviously invisibly repair all these minor cosmetic faults. The car is that R4 medium blue, but the bodywork is a bit tatty. There are other bits and pieces I am taking - in particular the UK dipping headlights, as my current R4 has the LHD dip which passed the MOT but is a bit weird. On the plus side, the tyres are virtually new, as are the distrib leads, and points but the wheel rims are quite tatty and I have taken the rubber matting to help with sound insulation on the current R4. If you want it, I won't strip any more stuff as I would like to think it is getting a second chance - it has been a fantastic car for ten years and deserves it. I said to the friends who rent the railway arches that I'd get it out of there this month, but if I give them a bottle of whiskey, I'm sure they will let it stay for a month or two more if you can give a definite date to remove it by. I have a full engineer's report on the welding required, a report on the carb wear from a good tuning specialist and a full service record - if you give me your address, I'll post you copies and send you a pic of the car.

What a cheek ! remind me not to tell anyone when i go on holiday .On a serious note i have two rear tartan door panels if you want them ?
Glad you liked the Spanish R4 and all its different spec [decent interior light]
Cheers Liam

The interior light is very cool - like a big transparent light switch. Noticed it doesn't have a hole in the chassis for the starter motor too.

I'll probably pass on the rear door trims. There are enough tartan bits in my yellow car to combine with the ones in the blue car to make a nice interior, so I'll combine them and use the orange interior from the Spanish car in the other.

I think both of the cars will find their way back onto the road in one form or another. And the Aston is nearly finished, so hopefully I'll make a start in the summer.

There is one bit I still need - the ventilation flap below the windscreen is rusty on my '68 car. Anyone got one of those from a TL?
