What do these things do?

I don't drive the R4 all the time as it lives in France so I don't know what these do on the heater box

The circled red bit seems to open and close a flap to divert air?

The thing circled in yellow seems to have lost its handle? Very hard to move with my fingers, what does it do?

Thx

Hi

The one circled in red is to open/close the air vent flap. From outside of vehicle, you have the black grille under the windscreen, the flap lives behind the grille. The one circled in yellow is to actuate the flap on the heater and direct the air flow. Both knobs are missing.

Hmm, when I operate the red one I get a massive air flow up the demisters!

If I want cool outside air I lift the 'ashtray' lid in front of the steering wheel, there is another one on the passenger side and air comes out of that.

I definitely need to find a knob for the heater flap

Here's what the owners manual says about heating controls. It also mentions flaps 6 which are the cold air flap vents on top of the dash.

Interesting, sounds like the pre-flight checks for Concorde!

Does anyone know where I might find Part 3, the handle for directing air up or down?

That should be a bar projecting out of the bulkhead, which you push or pull to operate. It should have a hard rubber button but these often perish, and I replaced mine with a same size hard plastic one which works a lot better.

The device which changes air flow from up to down is the handle I really want, marked as 3 on the manual above

Hi Nick

It is available new from 'all4renault' in Portugal at 15.36 Euro. The part number is: 7701028595. If you are in France, you could probably get it from a breakers yard for a lot less.

I am afraid R4s do not seem to feature in breakers anymore :-( There is large garage near us visible from the motorway that specialises in old 2CVs and R4s etc and I hear the prices are not cheap!

15.36? Seems a lot for a knob but...thanks
