Help wanted with mk 1 clio!

Greetings all. I'm in need of some assistance and hoping someone out there can help or point me in the right direction.

I am trying to obtain an idle control valve for my 1995 1.4 MK 1 clio. After speaking to Renault all I could retrieve was a part number for the throttle body but not the actual valve that connects to it. Apparently my engine code is very uncommon but it was shared with R19 also.

The part number for the throttle body is 7700869754, engine code is E7J 716, chassis B57B. I've tried part souq but they don't list either the valve or the throttle body. When going via car parts suppliers the information is conflicting and after trying several valves which were allegedly 'the right one' none worked.

Any help would be very gratefully appreciated!

Hi, unfortunately I can't as it kind of exploded. After messing around replacing the dizzy, and dizzy housing and it turned out the firing order in the manual was 1 step out it ended up blowing out the ICV, hence why I need a replacement. Problem is there are literally 100's of them that look identical but I'm guessing the plunger length and internal resistance on each one is different.

I think this is the part available in The Netherlands
Aren't their any second hand Renault parts shops in the UK?

Hi

I have been doing a bit of research. Even though all the info you have provided is cross referencing as correct, I can find nothing listed in my parts catalogues for the E7J 716 in terms of an idle control valve. However, there is an idle control valve listed for a Mark I Clio, 1995, 1390cc with an engine code E7J 718.

It may or may not be the same one.

Thanks for the replies. I think you're in that the ICV for the 718 should work in my 716, after some more research via VDO parts directories.

I ended up ordering one and fitting it today. I followed the 15 min battery disconnection procedure to reset the ECU ICV memory adaptions and let it idle for 10 mins - it settled nicely. Went for a drive to go through the range of revs/gears and came home. Thought all was good until I'd let it cool down when to start and it struggled to start without throttle and when it finally did say at 500 Rpm. I've ordered a new coolant temp sensor as I know they're prone to failure on these engines and as a cheap thing to rule out worth a try. There no vacuum leaks, plugs, dizzy, rotor arm are all good, no really sure where to go next!?

Hi

Have you run all the usual checks on the carburation side of things? Checked and cleaned jets, sucking air from perished/split carb base gaskets, loose carb securing nuts, dirt in the carb, perished/split manifold gasket, loose manifold securing nuts, checked the operation of the choke, fuel delivery etc.
