    Fonts going funny

Just my 2 centimes worth. I think I would prefer the lines between the post titles to be a bit darker - a bit too much white space.

How much is my new GTL worth??

Sounds a wonderful inheritance - do post some photos. Clementine's price guide should give you a good indication of her value

Not an R4 but a stretched 2CV seen on the Tour de France.

    oval plate no ?

The VIN numbers for both our R4s begin VF1 then the next 4 digits are the oval plate number - in our case VF1239B... and VF1112C... I must point out though that our cars are French from 1989/90.

    Lucas Girling brake parts

Hi Rick The pins on mine seemed OK it was only the small rubber boots that had split. I can only imagine that the rubber sleeving was some sort of anti-vibration thing but I could be wrong. But thanks for the info - if it fails the CT (MOT) on that at least I know which parts to order...

Essential question on a Saturday night..

A link will also direct you to other bits of information which may be of interest. I'm sure if the situation was reversed that Malcolm would prefer a link to this site rather than somebody just posting, for example, a chunk of text from his 'tech tips' or 'guides'. And if you do feel that...

Essential question on a Saturday night..

As Google tells me it's the 110th Anniversary of the birth of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry I thought a quote from him would be appropriate here. Transport of the mails, transport of the human voice, transport of flickering pictures-in this century as in others our highest accomplishments still...

    Water leak from chassis

I am getting my 1989 F4 ready for its CT (MOT) and I have what appears to be anti freeze leaking from the drainage hole at the bottom of the front LH chassis member - near the bottom suspension mounting. I was wondering where this water(?) could have come from? I know I have a coolant leak...

Sorry - no luck here in France either. We were told that kit is no longer available.:(

    Lucas Girling brake parts

I'm looking for the same kit (7701203375) here in France. I think the contents of the kit should look like this - http://webhost.hinyx.info/images/Twingo/7701203375.jpg The two pins on the right are the R4 (and older Twingo) pins the other are the newer Twingo pins. Oh and the rubbery bit is...

Any recommendations for mud and snow tyres.

Yes. But on which wheel do you fit the half tyre :?: In our case having just got two new summer tyres and no spare wheels for winter tyres they seemed an easy option for those few odd snow days ,until global warming kicked in and we got the long hard winters.

    'wicks away' - Interesting idea?

I'm with Pepper on this - I can't see what's wrong with the verb 'to wick'. I posted the link to Autosocks web site in my post so that forum members could read for themselves about the product and to save chunks of someone else's (copyrighted) text being copied and pasted onto the R4 forum.

Any recommendations for mud and snow tyres.

We got some Autosocks for our F4. Gave them a try when we had the last lot of snow here - they do give a better grip. They are quicker to fit than chains but you are limited to 50kph (30mph) and you are recommended to remove them on tarmac. If they do tear you just sew them back together.

    Snow time

Snow time here in Southern Burgundy. One of the things I like about life here in France is the commune system where things seem to get done at a local level. Our commune worker was out with his tractor and snowplough before 6am this morning. Our neighbour's F6 (top) and our F4.

    antifreeze in the sump

I still have one in the original pack (they came in a pack of 2) the description is just Silent Bloc !! The part number (for Norauto) is 255-627. I just took the old one in and asked "Avez vous quelque chose comme ça pour une renault quatrelle"

    antifreeze in the sump

Do you mean the hex rubber mounts (see pic)? If so we got replacements in France from our local auto shop Norauto.
