1979 4GTL - Sybil

Got a couple of deliveries from Le Bon Coin and Ebay.

Firstly these black/grey sun visors. Stunning at €7 and I needed to change them now I have the dark interior. I put the cream ones in my son's 4L along with the spare rubber matts.

They suit the grey felt headliner well.

Was not so happy about the 4L badge that I got off Ebay - looked like it was chromed on the photo. Nevermind, I will clean it up and get some chrome paint on it.

Sorry Stan - but my new grill is ready to put on - hoping to get the doors and bonnet tomorrow :)

The R4 is looking fabulous and I love the colour. The 4L badge wouldn't normally have a hole in the middle. Could be worth filling the hole if you are going to paint it, then glue the badge on.

I bought one badge on ebay a few months ago and it has the same hole (obviously not original).

They probably ended up riveting them on to stop them getting stolen!

wouldn't take much to fill the hole and smooth it over then paint!

OMG......... It look gudddddddd though it is not finished. Nice colour. If you can put sport rims it can make people crazy!! Rims make R4 to shine more and moreee

You would think after living in France nearly 10 years I would be used to disappointment.

But the 2 doors and the wings were ready when we got there, BUT they were the wrong F%^king colour......

The bonnet, rear door and front doors were not touched. - so I have left the car there and they have promised to have it complete by next Friday.

Oh well :(

Today is the day I get my car back - just called the Carrosserie and they said to come this afternoon to collect it. Just hope on the way home the flies don't get stuck in the wet paint o_O

Surely when you turn up to collect your car, you would expect these parts to be bolted on. Another dissapointing trip to the carrosserie but this time I could wait not longer and grabbed all the outstanding bits and took them home. Everything is painted and looks good but I am left with refitting everything.

I know I live in France and I know I am supposed to expect this but are you really? You become a living dilemma in either being nice all the time and never getting a result or being hard on them only[Ager. We were the nice guys :(

I've been there with a garage in France when my Kia Sedona cam belt snapped.

It took 3 months to do a 5 hour job.

Spent all day gluing on door seals, reinstalling handles and locks and have 3 of the doors plus the bonnet on. Seals are on the 4th door and the rear hatch door. I maybe finished tomorrow.

The grill looks nice, waited a year to put this on ;)

And I am pleased how the new indicators look too :)

I had an issue wit the rear right light not working and I was chasing my arse looking for the problem. I was following the 1979 circuit diagram and could not figure out why the left worked but not the right as the diagram said they were connected.
Then I flipped the page to find another 1979 to 1982 diagram which matched mine a little better and showed the fuse box and the right going directly to there where the left connects tot he number plate light and goes off to the switch.
I had changed the fuse box earlier not realising there are two internal links - one for the rear right light and one for the windscreen wipers. So a couple of additional links later all is working again

I think I am done - a few niggly bits like making the "donor" front doors fit a little better. Rebuild the Carb with new gaskets and fit the heat shield to the exhaust silencer (the carrosserie guy gave it too me afterwards saying "Is this your?".... arrrgh)

But I am happy with the outcome and she runs pretty well (even better once I have done the carb and a bit of tuning). This is my first proper car project involving a respray - now on to the next.... the Citroen Traction

Wow ! what a great job you've done there. Sybil looks really really good, am very jealous for 2 reasons 1 wish I had a 4 and 2 wish I had the knowledge and patience to do that, if I did it would make my dream of owning another 4 somewhat easier I think. Congratulations.

Stunning job. Will you ever want to part with it? Probably not. But I'm sure if you do you'll have a lot of interest from this forum. Good luck with the Traction, too.

Someone from this forum, came from Greece. I have the other side too but still thinking about putting that one on or not. Probably not.

Also got the front grill here from the forum - brand new and perfect condition with the choice of two badges. I chose the bigger one ;)
