Hi folks, Renault 4 gtl 1108. It will idle all day long ut rev won't lift as if fuel not getting through. If I half cover carb intake it revs up no bother.Timing ok, carb stripped and cleaned out. If it had an accelerator pump I would say that was the issue but it wasn't. Any input welcome. It was running great, this started overnight

Have you checked the vacuum line between carb and distributor, the elbow’s on distributor and carb looked ok on mine, but had lost all form of elasticity over time, they were not sealing properly.

I had the same issue and it was a blocked jet in the car, stripped it down, cleaned and added new gaskets and all solved

My 4F4 had what seemed to be a fuel issue, replaced the Condenser ( already had what looked like a New Ducellier fitted)
Ran fantastic after that.
Same thing, would idle but ran awful under load.
Intermotor will post the part number if you want can’t get to the box right now.
Ian.

Yes, the capacitor is often over-looked as a cause of erratically running engines. Worth investigating and testing by substitution with a known good capacitor. It's an easy swap, too.

Thanks for the input. Vacuum and mechanical advance working fine. Elec ignition fitted so condenser issue bypassed. I am under tge impression it is a carb issue. Have stripped and cleaned all jets unless I am missing something.

It'd be worth checking these:
- The nuts on the carb base
- Is the pipe to the manifold in place?

In the carb top:
- Needle valve/float height
- The filter under the 'doorbell'
- The long jet that hangs down from the top

Hi Steve

Have you checked the hose with the one way restrictor valve in it? The hose runs from the back of the base of the carburator/manifold to the rocker cover breather connector. If the valve is faulty, blocked or the hose is split or has come adrift, it can cause issues, common culprit.
