About to buy an F6 Van

Hello,

I've been to look at an F6 van today and I've fallen in love with it! What a drive. Its a 1985 blue van with 27000 miles. Just had the head gasket done after a few years in storage. 12 months MOT. Full history including original receipt. Windscreen has a chip in though and maybe shouldn't have passed MOT. Its in drivers view so will probably need replacing. Trouble is I cant find a company who have a replacement. Is this something that I could fairly easily source through this forum?
Also I would be interested in what people think is a fair price. I was going to offer £1350.

Matt

I bought a windscreen from my Renault agent this week.
National windscreens will also supply.
Price seems good to me.Gary

How much are they these days Gary? I could do with one.

Have a check through the buyers guide for any rusty bits underneath - that's the main thing that controls prices of unrestored cars, though the low mileage is certainly a bonus.

They told me £95 but with a bit of discount I paid £88.
National winscreen quote me £60 fitted but I did not check if it was laminated.
My car will not be going to the painter until the first week in November so I am putting together all the bits in case I have to use it for the France show in January.

F6 have different windscreens from other R4s. Not the same item

Can the chip be repaired? I think I've heard that this is possible

If all else fails, remove the screen in one piece and a local glass company will cut one out of laminated glass for you - may be cheaper than a genuine screen!! I believe that the R4 windscreens are all flat so that's to our advantage.

I'd say £1350 is a fair price for what sounds like a decent van. I paid £1250 for mine a couple of years ago so I'd say that seems a fair price. Ultimately there isn't that many left so what you pay depends on how much you want it!

Most parts are still available new although I'm thinking of a trip to Reims salon and a couple of scrapyards in France next spring for the bits I still need - rear door and back bumpers.

Most importantly - lets have some pictures

I agree with Lobster, this thread is useless without pictures. ;)

I've bought it

Hi everyone

Thanks for all your advice. I am now the proud owner of the van. Pics attached. Hope they are not too reduced. None of the companies I contacted for a windscreen quote got back to me. My insurance should cover it I guess. It appears that my biggest job will be fighting the rust. Is it worth getting some sort of treatment? Next job is building a car port to keep it dry.
