Found this old mechanic Ray who fitted an air filter modified from an old toyota corolla and he did a bit of this and that, now the old girl is absolutely firing like a machine gun.
She now sits at 65mph no problem, his explanation about the correct induction of cold air and fuel was way over my head, but who cares, he also told me to change the oil once a month because it's so cheap that it doesn't need an oil filter.

Hi Steve,
Yes the filter he put in was in a box and he left the old box in the car,so I phoned the local A E Cook classic car spares and they said there would be no problem, they only cost just over £3 each so I am going to buy quite a few next time I'm in town
Apparently according to the old boy the filter that I had in was the wrong size anyway even though it looked OK to me, but then again, he's older and wiser and the car now runs like a dream.
