Alfa Romeo R4L

At some early stage of R4 history Alfa Romeo was producing R4's. I have found these images from Slovenia via friend of mine. The car is from 1963. The tail lights are different, I can't tell are they original.

Hi John Doe! They qre indeed original. Alfa R in Italy manufactured the both R4 and the Dauphine on licence from La Regie....
-By the way..any news on that vacuum-clock as of yet?? -R.

Ok, thanks you, but I also wonder why they fitted these kind of lights instead the genuine parts of Renault ???...

La Regie Renault in France used French subcontactors such as Seima and Valeo,Cibie etc and I guess the Alfa-factory used their own Italian subcontactors for such items as lights etc.
As with Renault in France -they used what was available and if they had the parts 'on the shelf' already -so much the better I guess...
I am not sure but wouldn't be surprised if Magneti Moreli delivered the ignition etc. for this licence-built Alfa R4.. maybe the carb was a Dell'Orto aswell..
These variations and differences makes it a just that little bit more exiting I think.. -R.

Exceptionally rare nowadays!

Produceced in Italy by the Alfa Romeo factory in Pomigliano d'Arco (NA). In Italy the production of the Renault 4 was launched in December 1962, at the ex-factory Alfa Avio, a plant created by Alfa Romeo before the 2WW (at the time already under state management) for establish here its aviation division. It happened on the basis of a joint venture between Italy and France that took the name of Automotive Development South and were produced in total, between 1962 and 1964, 41,809 units. Together with the Renault 4, the Campanian plant assembled in those years, also under license, the Dauphine. These Italian versions of the two Renault models exploited in small part also components of Alfa Romeo. In the case of R4, for example, the rear lights were recovered from a Giulietta. The success was initially good, but when the Italian government established a tax policy detrimental for cars such as the Renault 4, this rushed things and in 1964 the car was taken out of production.
