anyone cognisant with differences between alpine/gordini r5 atmo and turbo motors, apart from the obvious inclusion of a turbo ? I have seen a turbo engine for sale and want to know if an atmo exhaust, inlet manifold fits ok. and distributor etc.,

Turbo has larger combustion chamber volume and flat topped pistons (as opposed to domed ones on atmo Alpine) to achieve lower compression ratio. It can be restored to atmo levels (10:1) by skimming the existing head and fitting the correct pistons. Also has lighter flywheel and larger capacity oil pump. Not sure about the camshaft, but all other ancillaries and components are directly interchangeable or the same on both engines.
